costumes!!!

oh wow, what fun Halloween has been this year!!! My mother made these ADORABLE costumes for the girls! she's so talented and the girls just love all of her treats she makes them... here is her website too...

I tried so much to turn our little Isabelle from being a princess... I didn't want her to think that just because she's a girl she has to be all about pretty things... she can be anything I am constantly telling her... so when she sprung on the Princess... I was shocked! maybe a little bit sad... I kept waiting and waiting to see if she may bite at any of my other suggestions... but no... I want to be a Princess Mamma! since she was a little tike I have been reading her one of my favorite books... Cinderella! The book is so tattered and lovely and she loves it so much... so of course Cinderella was her ideal princess! the final day when I decided to throw in the towel... she looked at me very sadly and said, "ok, Mamma... I can be a witch if you really want me to be one." oh my she knows how to get to me... then I said... NOPE you will be Princess Isabelle!!!!! It's going to be a ROYAL costume! "can I wear a tiara Mamma?" OF COURSE... with sparkly jewelry.. sparkly shoes... what EVER you want to BE you can be!!! we did just that! Our youngest however was happy to be anything we suggested... I knew to take advantage of just that in case next year she insists on being a princess as well... and yes, she was Little Red Riding Hood... so sweet! She was so happy to be just that... walking so carefully with her little hood! oh it was just precious!

  2. Ahhh - your photos are a wonderful story in themselves. I love Little Red Riding Hood - Mommy inspired? I ask because I can almost tell that Ms. Princess was going to be a princess whether you agreed or not. :) My last year of Mommy inspired costumes was last year - when my littlest was a joker and my oldest a Queen. This year we had a Princess disguised as a Witch (on Halloween, but at the library she looked very much like your beautiful blue Princess) I try to teach the little ones that is always better to be a Queen than a Princess - but of course they have their own ideas.
I can't wait to see more of your blog.

    Namaste!

  3. Your blog is so beautiful! Love it! I really admire your approach to parenting and the way you are raising your girls....I have 2 & 3 year old boys and I was wondering if you might share a little of your wisdom with me....I have spent the last 3 years twisting and turning trying to figure out my path as a mother, I am inspired by your gentle, mindful approach with lots of fun too...is there any books you read that really inspired you or helped you to find your rhythm as a mother? I would appreciate a little guidance as I settle into this new way of being with my boys....thank you dearly!

  4. oh gosh, Anonymous... I hope you get this message... I would love to write you personally but I only can write to you here... you can always email me. :-)
where do I start... wow, what a compliment you are giving me... really.. it means so much! I can honestly say that you have to realize like we all do ... that life... it's so precious! it's so quick...! I really try to hold onto everything! take it every day! I am also a photographer and work a lot... so part of my heart sometimes feels sad that I cannot be with my girls every minute... but then again the times when I am with them is so precious! I work in our studio 3 full days a week... scheduling is KEY! I also do shoots all week... but my husband and I both do this and it's a happy balance! I am so good a scheduling our life... fun things! Mondays are Nature Walk Days... we do something in nature! I love to teach our girls to see the little things in life.. the bugs... the turtles.. the leaves... I teach them to be kind to the Earth and Mother Nature will love them back! Fridays are baking/wash days... we hang out at home and tidy and get set for the weekend! everything is so flexible and maybe a friend will have a little beach day and that's cool... we just catch back on the rhythm next time. I believe to not schedule things to the max or you'll turn into a robot... life won't be fun! Tues I work all day and Thurs too. Weds. my husband and I have our youngest each a 1/2 day while our oldest is in school... she goes Tues. Weds. and Thurs. and loves it! but when I have just our youngest on Weds. I love to take her to like a park and it's just her and I... a nice little bonding. weekends are family days! we do fun things... venture to our downtown to a market.. fly a kite.. hang in the backyard... relax and be together! I truly believe you have to sit back and realllly relax in this life and ENJOY it! don't be nervous... raising kids is hard if we make it... if we enjoy it and love it and hug them and let loose of everything the ride is amazing! you really have to sigh and let all the tensions out of your heart... the kids will be so glad!... and you will too! We try to have a good night time routine! try to get the kids to bed in their own beds and cross fingers they stay... if not... there's always tomorrow! once they're asleep spend time with your partner... have a glass of wine! read a book! relax! but be sure the house is clean for the next day! wake 1/2 hour before everyone... take a nice walk.. shower... and have some coffee and let all the light in your home and hug everyone when they wake! This life is so much fun! if you live simply love every bit of it and smile smile smile! throw out the clutter and have minimal things... it's the best! for everyone!

I also love the blog blue bird baby! she's so inspiring!
