Hörte! a seaside restaurant...

Oh my goodness I just absolutely LOVE this restaurant! Hörte! It doesn't even feel like a restaurant... it feels like family, like home. The warmth you feel when you walk into this cozy seaside gem is like a hug. Everyone smiles, and looks so happy making what they love.
There are jars of pickled vegetable neatly arranged on shelves. Dried herbs bundled and hanging from the rafters doing their thing. Chef Isabelle is carefully with love slicing cheese and caring so much about the details.
You are happy to be here and know you will be here for awhile...

Time stopped for us when we met this great guy here above... He is from Australia and was eagerly excited to speak with us and share all of his passion for food and good quality simple ingredients. He shared with us the different farms that they use and go to and visit, making sure that the watercress is hand picked one by one. He spoke of the rooster stew and the pickled fish that was sure to awaken our tastebuds. He spoke of where he lived in his life and what he liked about each place. He told us about his children and his love for Sweden. He never once hurried or rushed through a story but more so treated us like we were in his home and wanted us to know how much he genuinely cared...

I love sharing food with people who have a passion for great quality food... I love taking my time sinking my teeth into each delicious bite. I love warm fresh bread out of the oven that I seriously could put into my pockets to warm up my hands. I love tasting foods that I have never tasted before... What is that I taste... what did you use... how can I ever forget how this tasted....
I love that we have passed this down to our children... I love when they love something so much that they close their eyes to eat it and slowly taste it with no visual distraction just taste...

Thank you sweet Hörte for caring as much about food as we do... thank you for sharing things you know about food with us... thank you for your stories and your passion of quality. I promised them that we would be back... I cannot wait!

From there we drove on to another adorable place.... I just loved what I saw and told Mattias... "Stop! Turn Here! We have to go there!!!" We found a place to park and just walked around their marina and dipped our toes in the sea a bit...

a day at the beach...

I am definitely a water girl... and ocean lover... I have to live by the sea always... It makes me so happy to be by water. This day we spent the day in the sunshine on the shore doing everything beachy! I love how in Sweden instead of coronas on the shore you have a carafe of coffee and little cookies. You can see everyone's special thermoses filled with hot coffee and a separate thermos for milk. Little wind blockers line the shore. Children hopping in the cold water.

a nice day in Ystad...

one of my favorite things to do in Ystad, Sweden is get lost in the heart of the town... The character and charm of Ystad is in my heart and every time I am in this sweet town I feel happy. The homes wind every which way and the roses line the sidewalks like little trails of pinks and red... I trip over the cobblestones because I'm too busy looking up and seeing the details like angel faces below one's window...
I love the little cafes that fill the town with delicious smells of fresh baked bread... one of my favorite places is the English Book Cafe... Hos Morten Cafe! We used to live just down the street from this unique spot and I used to love to peek in the little windows to see what they were doing... in the summer it's so nice to sit in the little hidden terrace and let the sun bake you as you wait for your amazing herring salad! The hum drum of people talking, laughing and just relaxing is so nice...

oh my gosh this Matjes Sill sandwich salad is what you should get if you ever come!!! The tang of the herring makes your cheeks pucker up! the dill is so summer to me! I was so happy and satisfied with this one!

This home above is my favorite home in Ystad! I would walk past this adorable dollhouse every day when we lived here! It's still the same look and color as it was 15 years ago! same roses! Why mess with perfection right...?

Ales Stenar... amazing!

This to me is my happy place... This place, this chunk of Heaven, slice of beauty... Ales Stenar!!! It's so powerful to go here for me. When I was pregnant for our two little girls I went here in my mind throughout labor... This was my happy place...
There is something about this coast that takes my breath away... maybe it's nostalgia  from coming here over 15 years ago when I was just 19... maybe it's something more...

can you feel this power... We stood looking out onto this view for a little bit... it was almost too hard to stand here... the wind pressing against our bodies... knocking over our girls... you just had to feel this crazy strong amazing force!
